Absolutely amazing!

Michael Kors Watches Dylan Black

Michael Kors Watches Dylan Black

I admit I ordered this because it's been in the news. (If you don't understand, google "Casio terrorism"). Now that I have it, I am surprisingly pleased with it as a watch, rather than as an ironic accessory.

I like watches, but hate paying a lot for them. The problem is that inexpensive ones usually aren't very comfortable to wear, don't look that good, don't last, and have difficult controls. Every one of these things is not true for this Casio. Right out of the box, it was appealing. The resin strap isn't cheap looking, the watch itself is thin and light. Very readable face. I didn't even have to read the instructions to understand how to use all the controls. It's understated but retro enough to be cool in a geeky way.

I can't swear to it's durability since I've had it only for a day. I'll update this after I've used it for a while.

Letters Katie Middlefield Family Novel

Letters Katie Middlefield Family Novel

This book is filled with situations that we all could face, not just the Amish. As the story unfolds, Katie and Johnny both realize they have let their wants become the focus of their lives rather than God being the center. Not only is it a book about self- soul searching for God's will but also about putting pride aside by letting others lend a helping hand, through love, prayer and friendship.

If you like real-life situations and are intrigued by the Amish community, it is a book that I would highly recommend reading. Letter writing plays an important part in this book, but so not to give it away, I'll just say you need to read it to understand the title. It is an uplifting read.

Disclosure: I was given a copy of this book by the publisher, Thomas Nelson, through Booksneeze blogger program for review. I was not required to write a favorable review nor was I compensated for my review. The opinions in this review are my own.

"My father robbed me of more than he knew, orphaning each part of me of its past."

Black Venus Novel James MacManus

Black Venus Novel James MacManus

Susan Heyboer O'Keefe has taken Marry Shelley's hideous monster, a lump of mismatched parts, and infused him with a soul, his human-like spirit evolving through misadventure and the dogged cruelty of a man dedicated to his extermination, Robert Walton. The dying Frankenstein wrested a promise from his friend with his dying words, "swear to me that you will hunt down the creature and destroy it." There are certainly monsters afoot in this beautifully imagined story, but they are of human origin, twisted by passion and obsession. Seeking shelter from an indifferent, nay, hostile world, Frankenstein's monster embarks upon a bleak journey from a decaying Venice to the wild Orkney Islands and finally a Northumbrian coal mine, relentlessly pursued by Walton. From a tentative exploration of affection with a mute woman in Venice, the monster is tormented, Walton's singular mission to destroy his friend's foul creation. Spewing lies to impressionable villagers, Walton's forces his prey to flee.

As monster embraces humanity, his eager mind fed by books and brief encounters with those who tolerate his deformities, Walton proudly shoulders the burden of his task, filled with vengeance and a sort of divine madness, like a fanatical saint burning with the fervor of his hatred. Each small victory, a new place to sleep, the brief gift of friendship, is avidly destroyed, Walton become the monster's shadow, a terrible twin exacting retribution. In his grief, Frankenstein's creation turns to England with a plan to strike at Walton in kind, through the family her corresponds with regularly, a sister, Margaret Winterbourne, her husband and daughter, Lily, a beautiful sprite who flaunts convention, finding in the spontaneously named "Victor Hartmann" a formidable weapon against the restrictions of convention.

Dupe, fool, object of scorn and terror, "Victor" is swept into Lily's web, imagining one more chance to inhabit the world as other men but for the ugliness of his form. The half-mad Lily drives the next phase of the monster's journey, first to the wild country of the Orkney Islands, then to a Northumbrian coal mine, where a reckoning between foes becomes an epic battle waged in Hades, the cunning Walton filled with deadly fury after a mine collapses in the bowels of the earth. So human does this monster become, so anguished with the burden of his beginnings and the violent assemblage of his disparate parts, that it is impossible not to grant such a creature the grace of existence among men. True evil grows in the twisted pathways of a diseased mind, Shelley's monster an innocent born of Frankenstein's hubris, brutishly navigating a world of predators, until the realization, "I have been a monster of my own making. I will be a man of my own making instead." Luan Gaines/2010.

Watch has lasted deployment after deployment

Timex T41711 Expedition Camper Fabric

Timex T41711 Expedition Camper Fabric

In 2005 I needed a watch, something with a cloth band. I found this at PX/BX and figured for ~$25 dollars at the time I couldn't go wrong. I have beat the crap out of it through everyday use since them. One reviewer is so right when he says it grows on you. I feel naked with out it, however when it's on you don't even feel it as it's light and once the band is broken in it's super soft. I lost that original watch in 2008 (foolishly leaving it somewhere). So I immediately purchased a new one and had it to this day (2012). There are no scratches on it, and I've only replaced the battery once (not because it died but because I figured 3 years was a long time on one battery and it might behoove me to make sure it doesn't die when I need it). I have washed it, I have worn it in the rain. I have literally run it under water to clean off layers of mud. No issues. It says "water resistant" on the back, no meters either, so they don't say it can handle water. Mine has.

The watch is smaller, which make it also very comfortable. I hate how companies assume all men want to wear a dinner plate on their wrist. I tried to find a "fancy" watch of this size and it's impossible. So I wear this even when I'm dressed to impress. After all, for a watch at this price range I'm extremely impressed.

One more thing. The glow in the dark feature on mine is still going strong after all this time. If nothing else, get this watch just as a back up to throw in your bug out bag. Analog has extra uses that a digital can't provide as well, like finding north via the sun.

I bought a black one about a year back, but it's strap wrapped under the watch piece. I did not like that at all. I don't recommend that one. It lifted up off my wrist slightly because of the band slipping under.

"Imagine Love" revisited

B Is Bondage Erotic Alphabet

B Is Bondage Erotic Alphabet

Big books are a guilty pleasure for me. I like to be whisked off my feet and carried away by a story. Diamond Drake does just that in her amazing fictional work Imagined Love. The book details the life of protagonist Jade Caldwell who has every reason to be leery of love yet finds herself back in its clutches time and time again.

The book starts off with the tumultuous relationship between Jade's parents. This sets the tone for the love roller coasters that take her and the reader for a ride through every stage of her life. Drake does a great job of infiltrating the sweetness of intimate relationships, the bitterness of heartbreak, and the skill it takes to accept them as a part of life. As one reader put it, "the book is simply healing for those of us who know how complicated life can be".

You will laugh, cry, shake your head at characters that seem so familiar you will think they are your friends, and sigh at knowing that Jade is headed for (another) wrong turn, and there is nothing that could be done to stop her. She wants her slice of the fairytale and Drake pulls the reader in so well, that you want Jade to enjoy that slice too.

This book is one that you fall in love with while it reminds you that it takes courage, love, and resilience to find the right person for you, as did the fabulous Jade Caldwell.

A wonderful, enriching novel

The Midwifes Revolt ebook

The Midwifes Revolt ebook

Lizzie Boyleston lives in Braintree, MA during the 1770s - a neighbor of the Adams family (John and Abigail). As the colonies rise against the British Government, and the revolution begins, Lizzie loses her husband. She struggles to survive and find her own place in history.

This book is historical fiction - while the Adams family and some minor characters are right out of history books, Lizzie and others are inventions of the author's imagination. The story is told in diary form - with Lizzie recounting the the early events of the revolution upon the deathbed of her friend Abigail Adams. The story has mystery, intrigue, romance, history and more. Although a slow starter, once it got going, I could hardly put it down.

I admit I am a fan of history and have been thoroughly inundated with the Revolution in my reading this past year. So this was an easy choice for me. But lovers of historical fiction will enjoy the characters. I loved that we got an every day Abigail Adams to put alongside our historical images derived from her letters. Lizzie is also a strong and likable main character - bold and true and honorable. She holds her head high in the hardship she faces.

Details of colonial life and struggles of the wartime living ring true in the pages. Perhaps we've always imagined the era in our minds, but not really understood all it took to live in them. This will fill in those gaps. The story itself is quite intriguing, though not altogether unpredictable. It is good work as a first offering with such an ambitious topic.

It's not a steamy love story type historical fiction, but those who love to read about seemingly real characters from the past should enjoy this one.

I receive a copy of the book from the publisher. All opinions expressed are my own!

Totally degenerate, but very well done

Shot Andy Warhol Lili Taylor

Shot Andy Warhol Lili Taylor

I suppose "I Shot Andy Warhol" is different things to different people. I have argued vehemently with friends whose opinion I respect about the extraordinary merits of this film. I think "I Shot Andy Warhol" was one of the finest films of 1998. I also think this film is blessed with one of the most intense performances of any era by Lili Taylor, unforgettable in the lead role of lesbian-prostitute-feminist-deranged-Warhol-groupie Valerie Solanas. Hers is a brave, utterly believable portrayal, wrought with desperation, loneliness and a creative need chained by conventions of American society.

To expect a by-the-numbers retelling/recreation of the true events portrayed in this film - Solanas' assault of Andy Warhol - is entirely missing the point. I believe film director/writer Mary Harron was trying to reveal a type of exploitation of women that existed during this time, and certainly hovered in the shadows of the pseudo alternative arts culture of Andy Warhol's Factory - a dream-like warehouse littered with black-clad artists/writers/filmmakers instinctively creating against-the-grain works while rebelling against the conservative conventions of 1950s-1960s American culture.

Harron's version of Solanas, who would go on to publish the frightening though fascinating work "SCUM Manifesto," is a lonely, out-of-place soul. She initially appears to have found a comrade haven in Warhol's Factory. But her rage, plus her radical feminist views, eventually causes her "excommunication," leading to her assualt of Andy. The shooting itself essentially ended Warhol's artistic career, leaving wounds which would never entirely heal.

I like the contrast Harron makes several times throughout the film between Warhol (well played by Jared Harris) and Solanas - with Warhol as the effeminate introverted male and Solanas as the masculine extroverted female. These two are definitely opposite sides of the coin. I was also impressed by Harron's pointed observation of the women-hating exploitation that existed in much of the Factory's art. It has always been cool to admire Warhol and the legend of his Factory. Harron's recreation of several of the warehouse parties, including a memorable Velvet Underground concert, are some of the many highlights of this film.

But eventually in Harron's film, Solanas' radical views are too counter culture for even Warhol and company. And once again Solanas is an outcast, lonely and adrift within the confines of the New York art scene of the 1960s. "I Shot Andy Warhol" is such a sad film in many ways, detailing lost souls void of acceptable identity. Solanas' rage is the angst of all struggling outcasts, cursed by a need to create, but unable to find the proper forum or audience. That she took her rage to the ultimate extreme should not be applauded. But to place her into the conventional (and safe) category of demented psycho is not entirely accurate. It's a brave stance "I Shot Andy Warhol" makes, and perhaps it is just another form of the emotional truth of this story.

Harron's "I Shot Andy Warhol" is an alternative examination of alternative lifestyles. It's stance is disturbingly unique, with a creative style undeniable.

Skagen Womens 656LSLD Movement Chronograph

Skagen Womens 656LSLD Movement Chronograph

I received the Skagen slim black leather watch (271SSLB) as a present last December and found it so beautiful that I wanted another Skagen watch to match with my tan/taupe attire. Wanting also a watch with a wider band, I went with this quartz chronograph watch here and couldn't be more satisfied. The watch is beautiful, just as stunning and subtle as a watch can be. The leather is soft, the face is minimal, and the combination quartz + wide band beautifully creates a beautiful compliment for a petite wrist. It might be hard to imagine from the photo, but the watch, rather than overwhelming a woman's wrist (typically smaller and more slight than the average male wrist) maintains a soft/pretty flair with the quartz and adds a strong look of independence. Since there are so few wide-band women's watches, I tried several men's (and a couple other wide-band women's) watches to no avail. This is the only one that manages not to overtake the size of a petite wrist with a giant watch and that maintains a soft appearance without the overwhelming glitz/glam of the average women's watch.

It's perfect for any attire: if you are looking to add some feminine flair to a white button-up, a bit of power to a lace top and shorts, or both flair and power, it mixes and matches. It's simply gorgeous with everything I have worn it with. I highly recommend!!!

It's not without faults though, despite being made for women, you will likely need to add several notches to the wrist band (I had to add three) as even set to the smallest notch the band is sized for a very large women's wrist. So I recommend acquiring a leather puncher (I found one that took about 30s to use and worked well for about $6 here on Amazon).

A suspenseful, spellbinding, and splendid monologue

The Reluctant Fundamentalist Mohsin Hamid

The Reluctant Fundamentalist Mohsin Hamid

Mohsin Hamid writes so well that were it not for the propulsive force of his quietly building suspense story, the reader would be tempted to linger over passages of elegantly beautiful prose. THE RELUCTANT FUNDAMENTALIST is a timely book, yes, but it is far more: the novel underscores the talent of a superlative writer unafraid to place before the public a story that is bound to create a disturbing response at the end of the roller coaster ride.

Cleverly written as a monologue from a Pakistani young man named Changez (a name when pronounced delivers major clues to the story!) as he joins an American in a cafe in Lahore, Pakistan. The story reveals a young lad from a family once well to do in Pakistan, but fractured by the political changes suffered by that country, a lad who goes to America to attend Princeton University where he transforms himself into an 'American stance', performs exceedingly well academically, and joins the wealthy American classmates on jaunts where he encounters the beautiful but mysteriously aloof Erica. Changez and Erica become friends and were it not for Erica's recovering from a loss of her previous lover Chris who died of cancer, the two seem to be destined to become lovers. Erica is from a wealthy family who accepts Changez even more readily when upon graduation he is awarded a position with the prestigious firm Underwood Samson. Changez learns the feeling of the American preoccupation with success and wealth while still being committed to his family ties in Pakistan. While Changez is on a business trip to Manila he watches the 9/11 event and he is surprised that he feels a bit happy that haughty America is being brought to her feet.

Changez returns home finding his physical appearance now a cause for suspicion in the bruised country that afforded him success. He attempts to stay connected with Erica but Erica has retreated into her fragile state of melancholia and is eventually hospitalized. Changez continues his successful climb up the American dream ladder of success until he meets a gentleman Juan-Bautista in Chile who admonishes him that his devotion to his work for American companies might force him to forget the importance of home and family. Changez is changed and his decision regarding his employment, his lack of knowledge of Erica's whereabouts, and his growing anger at America preemptive attacks on countries near his home - all result in his returning to Pakistan, and the encounter with the American at the cafe. And Hamid leaves us there, afloat on a sea of questions and new information about the people we have been attacking and the result is a pungent experience in re-thinking the global atmosphere.

The book is relatively short (184 pages) and since it is written as one extended conversation, it is next to impossible not to read the entire book at one sitting: leaving the story even for a moment would be like leaving a personal encounter - rude. The story is superb, written with facile elegance, and contains views from outside our cloistered world that refreshingly informs us to re-examine our point of view. Highly Recommended on every level. Grady Harp, June 07

Wealthy Man Who Yearns For Love

Great Gatsby Blu ray Leonardo DiCaprio

Great Gatsby Blu ray Leonardo DiCaprio

"The Great Gatsby Film" featured a wild but entertaining tale of the complicated love triangle between the characters of Tom Buchanan, Myrtle Wilson, Daisy Buchanan, and Jay Gatsby. Joel Edgerton and Isla Fisher did good jobs in capturing the torrid but scandalous romance between Tom Buchanan and Myrtle Wilson. However, I admit that my three favorite character portrayals in the movie were that of Jay Gatsby (played in an extraordinary way by Leonardo Dicaprio), Daisy Buchanan (sensual and brilliant portrayal), and Nick Carraway (outstanding performance by Tobey Maguire). I personally feel that Dicaprio really became one with the Jay Gatsby character and brought the Gatsby persona to life. It was both touching and tragic to see how far he went for his love of Daisy Buchanan. You then have the character of Daisy Buchanan who is mutually in love with Jay Gatsby, and is conflicted on what to do. Last, but not least, there is the heartfelt depiction of Nick Carraway as one with a strong conscience and sees mainly the best in Jay Gatsby. However, his natural concern for Gatsby towards the end of the film was portrayed in an extreme light. "

Make sure when you start this book you are at a point and time you can spend reading it, because you will not want to put it down. I finished it in two days and had a thing like working not gotten in the way, I would have been done in one! I read both Something Borrowed and Something Blue and Ethan (from Blue) plays a very small cameo which actually helps the main character make a decision. Someone disagreed with the ending saying they spotted it halfway through. I disagree. I don't want to give anything away, but I am perfectly happy with the ending, and would love to see a follow-up book on these characters. I love Giffin's writing style. She gave just the right amount of background. And never wrote anything that might have required an explanation without giving one. I highly recommend this book. Run, don't walk, and buy it!

Voguestrap TX1802BK Adjustable Length Nylon Black Watchband

I bought this band for a friend who had this band (an earlier, very worn-out version) and had not been able to find a replacement no matter what retail stores she had tried. She lives in the country and doesn't have a computer. She mentioned her watchstrap issue during a visit. I suggested we try on-line. We found the band at Vogue, but also found they didn't ship to Canada. After further searching it was found at Amazon. I ordered it, selected the least costly shipping method and it arrived in 2 or 3 days. It was exactly what she wanted and I was so pleased with the fast shipping.
Her job requires that she wear a watch but she can't have the metal back part of a watch touching her skin. The specific Timex that she uses suits her needs exactly but the band was so worn she risked losing the watch. My friend is a happy camper now.
Hurray for Amazon!

Brilliantly written romance with a real twist.

Yearning ebook

Yearning ebook

" I need your eyes to see, your hands to touch, your spirit to acknowledge that which I hold most deeply and secretly in my heart. My yearning for you."

A shy teenage girl writes scented letters of longing to her new high school English teacher and neighbour, the handsome and charming, Solomon Andrews. From her bedroom window she watches and hopes for him to notice her.
Solomon is flattered by his young student's attention, and though wary of another scandal, he finds himself unable to resist her passionate adoration.
While Solomon justifies their affair as his "ultimate and ecstatic gift" to her, the girl believes he is her soul mate, her one and only true love.
When they are discovered and separated she clings to the to the idea that she and Solomon are destined to be together. It is a belief that she cannot relinquish, and well into adulthood the yearning for him remains.

The plot of The Yearning extends beyond the scandalous affair between a teacher and a student, even beyond the a sensual coming of age story of an unnamed teenage girl in love with with a twenty something year old man. It is a compelling exploration of the nature of love, of lust, of longing and desire and how our early experiences with these emotions affect the way in which we resolve them as adults.

For the girl - now a woman, the affair leaves her endlessly searching for a lover able to stir the same feelings within her. It's an obsession that sabotages her relationships with other men, and even when she submits to Solomon's absence and marries Max, she is not free of their decades old connection. If she can't find some way to relinquish her teenage fantasy happiness will always elude her.
For Solomon, whose introduction to sex was divorced from love or even affection, the craving for attention, physical satisfaction and control of his emotions has him at the mercy of his libido. The value of an emotional connection, love if you will, escapes him not only in his relationship with the girl but in all his relationships to follow.

Belle's lyrical prose ensures The Yearning avoids becoming a tawdry, sensationalist tale of sexual exploitation. Both Eve and Solomon are able to give voice to the motivation behind their feelings and desires. The author captures the excitement and confusion of lust and love with raw honesty. Eve's letters and diary entries are the romantic, sensual ravings of a young girl in the throes of intense infatuation. Solomon's musings, though indisputably self serving, are thoughtfully revealing. It is important to know that the descriptions of various sexual unions are at times explicit but not without purpose.

Beautifully crafted, The Yearning is an evocative, sensual novel exploring the connection between love and desire.

Blame Brontes ebook

Blame Brontes ebook

My wife and I have enjoyed this book for over a year now, and we look forward to each new invitation! The book, as explained by some other reviews, is laid out with sealed invitations -- half for the men, and half for the women. When you break open an invitation, you're given a descriptive account of WHY the act you are about to do will be fun and exciting, HOW you will make it so, and WHAT you'll need to pull it off. In contrast to another review I read, I appreciate the sealed invitations for the sense of anticipation and excitement if gives you, and more of a desire to commit to the invitation rather than leafing through the book to find the one you want to do. With this format, you are somewhat forced to open your mind to other possibilities! The actual invitation, which is sent to your respective lover, is a bit skimpy on details -- on purpose! It tells them what to wear, when to meet, and what to bring. With a busy schedule, it is difficult if not impossible to work through an invitation every week, but when you do you'll be glad you did. This is a book of great ideas, but the real magic comes from how you personalize the idea -- the more time put into each one, the better, so it's only fitting that you would want to put in more effort for the one you love! My wife and I recommend this book to anyone who wants to make their relationship more exciting, more intimate, and more fun! We always highly recommend this book to our friends, after some very excited and enthusiastic descriptions of what to expect.

Christmas Magic

Sleepless In Seattle

Sleepless In Seattle

As much as i hate to admit it, i love sleepless in seattle. This coming from a 16 year old sophomore in high school...I first watched this movie with my mom a long way back when it had just come out, and i enjoyed it more because my mom told me it was good rather than because i actually liked it. But as i got older, and watched it more, i found out that the movie is just brilliant. A GREAT story, and a wonderfully directed film by Nora Ephron. Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan are M-O-F-E (made for each other, watch the movie) in romantic comedies. Great movie. (oh, and the person who reviewed this before me, says that the 10th anniversary edition is missing the broom closet scene...i dont know if thats just their version, because i know that scene is in this DVD. And i double checked to make sure i had the 10th anniversary edition, and i do. Just pointing that out.) GREAT MOVIE, A CLASSIC...BUY IT

Oldie But Goodie!!

The Visitor Mel Ferrer

The Visitor Mel Ferrer

Code Red have been promising a DVD release of The Visitor since about 2007 and I honestly never thought this would see the light of day. But here we are, three years on and only 18 years from my first viewing of the film that I credit with introducing me to the horror film genre. This was in fact the very first horror movie I ever saw, and being only 10 years old at the time it was the scariest thing I'd ever witnessed.
Taking into account this movie is fairly old (over 30 years) times change and it doesn't seem nearly as frightening as it did back then, coming across more eerie then terrifying in the present time. As previous reviewers have pointed out, this movie may make very little sense, but to my mind that's intentional and that doesn't mean that no though has gone into it. Symbolism runs throughout (the recurring appearance of birds) and the soundtrack fits perfectly with the movies overall image. The Visitor fits in very well with the era it was made in and would be more understood by people who were children/teenagers in the 70's and 80's (look out for Katie enjoying a game of Pong before bumping off the house maid). I would recommend if you like your horror retro and with a heavy dose of surrealism. This isn't for fans of special effects laden, mainstream, modern horror. The Visitor isn't supposed to be a cinematic masterpiece either, but personally, I love it. It's definitely one for fans of movies like Theatre of Blood, Martin, Suspiria, Inferno and Deep Red.

A More Mature Album that Broadens Kesha's Appeal Without Alienating Existing Fans

Warrior Deluxe Explicit Version Ke

Warrior Deluxe Explicit Version Ke

The most anticipating sophomore album, from pop star sensation Ke$ha, was sure to hit big numbers in record sales. Despite the low average of $$ it picked up on its first week release, people have been raving on how amazingly infectious this album is. Being a huge fan of hers when she first hit the scene with Tik Tok, I fell in love! I downloaded a few tracks from her debut album "Animal" and thought "Hey, these songs are pretty badass, let me finish downloading the whole record!" Boy am I glad I did, every song on that album defines what pop culture is all about! I had it on repeat in my car, in the shower, in my room, just everywhere! "Cannibal" then came around and was an outstanding companion to her first album. It showed a more sensitive side to Ke$ha with "The Harold Song" and "C U Next Tuesday." After the summer hit single "Blow" started to die down on the radio, she disappeared. She went off the radar for a whole year. Interviews started to pick up on what to expect on her new record and it made me anticipate the album even more! December 4th, 2012 finally came around and when it did, you bet your little patootie I was the first one in line to buy it. After anxiously unwrapping the CD in my car (explicit version) and fed it to my CD player, Warrior began. I nearly fainted driving home. Each song was giving me an eargasm!! I couldn't help notice the departure from what "Animal" sounded like but definitely not in bad way. It's like she reinvented herself into something bigger and better. I admire the fact she took the route of less atuo-tune and showcase more of her vocals because the woman can sing! There is not one single song on this album I dislike, even though "Wherever You Are" had me at hitting the skip button the first couple of times. She's come a long way and this is her best work to date. I can't wait for her to go on tour and sing these beautiful songs live. If you're an animal and loved her previous work, this is not to be overlooked, or just anyone who has a knack for fun dance tracks, this is jam-packed with them. Do yourself a favor and don't think twice about making this purchase, DO IT NOW, you sincerely won't regret it :)

I need more!

His Risk to Take ebook

His Risk to Take ebook

Holy hotness, Tessa Bailey. I don't know where she comes up with the steamy lines that are delivered through the mouths of her Line of Duty heroes, but I want to set up camp inside her mind. I absolutely loved her debut novel, Protecting What's His, and was ecstatic to receive an ARC of her new novella, His Risk to Take, from Entangled Ever After.

Unlike other series in Entangled's Brazen line, His Risk to Take is only loosely connected to its predecessor. The setting shifts from Chicago to New York, following the NYPD's newest transfer, Troy Bennett. After a week on the job, Troy heads to a dive bar with a couple colleagues, where he meets Ruby - a self-described lifelong gambler equipped with her own custom-made pool stick.

On paper, a cop and a professional hustler appear to be polar opposites, yet Troy an Ruby are inexplicably drawn to each other, each fascinated by the challenge the other presents. Years of being dependent solely on herself taught Ruby to be careful and calculating, yet her desire to become better acquainted with Troy's dominant nature finds her curiosity overruling reason.

"This man wasn't typical in any sense of the word."

Ruby's vastly understated assessment of Troy pinpoints exactly why he is such a captivating fictional hero. It's hard to find fault with a man whose biggest problem is finding a woman capable of enjoying his wonderfully vivid imagination, which he channels towards all things naughty.

Though sexually compatible, both Ruby and Troy have personal issues which prevent them from lowering their emotional inhibitions. Troy's need to conquer and protect is challenged by Ruby's independent and defiant personality, making for an interesting dynamic between the couple, both in and out of the bedroom.

In addition to their no-nonsense attitudes, Bailey's heroines have a knack for getting themselves into trouble with their reckless behavior. It's perhaps fitting that their would-be saviors are cops, who happen to make excellent romantic interests. I can't wait to read the next installment in Tessa Bailey's Line of Duty series.

Modern China at its most horrific

The Dark Road A Novel

The Dark Road A Novel

The horrors of modern China with its "one child" policy and endemic corruption make this book a compelling read. This is the story of Melei, a young peasant woman, her husband and child. Forced to abandon their home because the "one child" policy means she has to abort her second child, the reader senses her pain and terror as she watches a child who was born alive be murdered by the doctors.

This family goes through a long list of horrors as they lose their home and are forced to live on a boat. Pollution and corruption are everywhere and their life is one big struggle. Through the years the misfortunes continue, their marriage is strained, the government policies unbelievably cruel. They do survive however and through the years manage to improve their condition somewhat.

The story is compelling and has a touch of magic realism to it. The characters are developed with excruciating detail and I was thrust into their lives, wincing at its revolting descriptions on every page.

This is their story. But is also the story of China itself. I easily identified with Melei and winced a lot at the horror of her life. It sure made me feel fortunate to be born in America..

5 Stars - loved it!!!!

Thursday Nights Charistown Series ebook

Thursday Nights Charistown Series ebook

The first book of Lisa Paul's series was SUCH a great read. This is a captivating book that you definitely don't want to put down. The characters immediately pull you in from the start. With each chapter I became more and more attached to the whole group of friends that I was introduced to.

Their stories, relationships and bonds that seem to grow with each passing page keep you hooked in. Such deep-routed devotion and attraction between so many characters! Lisa writes with such passion that with one sentence in this book she can take your breath away. I loved the main characters Janie and Max, routing for them the entire novel. Their past, their pain, their insecurities always getting in the way of something that could be more than amazing! The sexual attraction between the two of them was crazy! The DETAILED romance and build up of their attraction was so well written. LOVED the sex scenes, HOT and so detailed you can't take your eyes off the page!!! Couldn't get enough of Max and Janie's hunger and need for each other.

Lisa Paul did an amazing job introducing and giving us bits and pieces into the lives of the rest of the characters in the book. The friendships and personalities of the whole group of friends leaves you wanting to always know more...can't wait to find out more in the rest of the series! Read the whole book in 1 day and could picture myself laughing and joking with all of the characters in this book. Wishing I was out Thursday Nights with everyone in Charistown.

Can't wait for #2! Lisa Paul outdid herself writing her first novel. Looking forward to Lisa Paul unraveling the next story and I can't wait to take in the rest of the characters as she continues her series.

Time Expedition woman's watch

MAOYU MAO YUSHA BLU RAY LEAFLET

MAOYU MAO YUSHA BLU RAY LEAFLET

This is the 2nd Timex watch I've bought for myself. The other is T49659 Expedition Classic Digital.
I was looking for an analog to wear with outfits that will not go with the digital. When I got it I was not too happy with its size and width. I would prefer a slimmer watch with a slightly larger face like my old Titus watch. This is probably the standard size for most of the ladies' Timex and I'd probably get used to it. The strap is beautiful and well-made and comfortable around my wrist. Display is easy to read and INDIGLO is big plus to read time in the dark. This backlit feature is not found in most other analog watches.
I would highly recommend the Timex Expedition series as so far the watch is telling time accurately and it is water-resistant up to 50m/165ft so you don't need to worry when you are caught in the rain or wash dishes. Overall I am very pleased with my purchase. This watch is retro looking and unassumingly elegant. Well worth its price.

Tragic story. Happy ending?

Youre Gonna Miss Me Erickson

Youre Gonna Miss Me Erickson

Roky Erickson has one of those great voices that seem to come out of the ether and define what we now come to regard as essentially psychedelic. You can't escape its magnificence anymore than you will never tire from hearing it. That it comes from such a sweet guy and, as we learn from this documentary, traversed a path that could easily have ended in tragedy only enhances its brilliance. His is a story that seems to traject us to a time and a place that mixes an eccentric and talented family with the archaic marijuana laws of the period to put Roky in a setting that hopefully wouldn't happen today. That he has come out the other side to be once again performing and establishing his place as one of the pivotal figures in our Rock 'n' Roll history is wonderful and no doubt enhanced by films like this.
